Brenda de Groot
University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA)
I am a PhD student in Primatology with a passion for animal ethics and conservation (sensu multispecies justice). My study subjects - and very much the objects of my obsession - are leaf monkeys. I study their care behaviors and norms, mixing traditional ethological methods with ethnography, to better understand what it means for them to flourish in the Anthropocene and to advocate for their interests and rights.
I am also a visual artist and co-chair the Werkgroep Dierfilosofie together with Eva.
Cebuan Bliss
Radboud University
I’ve recently finished my PhD researching animal ethics issues in conservation. I focused on three issues in particular: animals we refer to as ‘invasive alien species’, killing for supposed conservation benefit, and rewilding. I have been thinking about what transformative change means in conservation and how we can build more compassionate multispecies societies.
I’m also exploring (scientific) storytelling as a way to communicate about animals and shift perspectives.

Veerle Platvoet
University of Helsinki
I am a PhD researcher at the University of Helsinki, where I research wild animal law.
In my research, I analyze the legal status of wild animals as they exist on the interface between animal conservation laws and animal welfare laws, and I try to unearth how their legal status differs depending on human interests and use. I am also very interested in critical approaches towards biodiversity conservation, wildlife ethics, and wild animal rights.
Irina Frasin
I’m a researcher in the Institute of Social and Economic Research Gheorghe Zane, Romanian Academy, Iasi Branch. My basic formation is in philosophy and history.
For about 10 years I have taught classical Greek philosophy and intercultural communication in the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi. Lately I began to focus my research on anthrozoology, moving from intercultural communication to inter-species communication. I recently graduated a new master on Ethology and Human Animal Interaction in USAMV Cluj-Napoca.
I am involved in organising a yearly international symposium in anthrozoology (The Anthrozoology Symposium) and I’m co-editing the series of books Anthrozoology Studies.

anna andrejew
In 2019, after over a decade as a humanitarian aid worker, I fully dedicated myself to my practice as an artist-researcher. My work explores the memory of matter and challenges anthropocentric perspectives. Grounded in permaculture, (animal) philosophy, and both visual and relational art, I invite others into non-linear, collaborative processes that expand our understanding of more-than-human relations and interconnected ecologies, fostering shared knowledge creation beyond human boundaries.
